Hey you! Mom of Blessings! I’m talking about the postpartum mommys. It’s okay! I’m a postpartum mom myself hince the picture used above. That facial expression was very real and who ever said that spiritual encouragement and faith was not needed? NO ONE! So let’s encourage one another in the word of God!
Truth be told, it takes a lot to balance mom life, wife life, career life, and whatever else is on our plates. We are super women managing these precious gifts of God! Let’s talk stats right? 80% of new moms experience baby blues(temporary emotional changes after birth) such as unexpected crying, feeling overwhelmed, mood swings, sadness, and worry. To be honest, I experienced all of the above with my first child and is currently experiencing some of these same baby blues with my current newborn. What I say at the beginning? It’s okay! We can encourage one another!
The depression happens to 1 in 8 women after live birth. Postpartum anxiety happens to 10-20% of women after birth. Those of us who had C-Sections, we are 1 in 3 women who may experience postpartum. Chile let me raise my hand for a second because I am part of that 1 in 3. Both of my children were delivered C-Sections, one unexpected, and the other scheduled. I can honestly admit the anxiety got the best of me for at least 3 weeks with my firstborn. A little anxiety here and there with my current baby. Again, its okay!
Psychosis is 1-2 per 1,000 births. You seen the previous stats right? While these statistics are unfortunate, we can get through it together with the Lord’s very present help! Yes thats a scripture right over there in Psalm 46:1. The post partum season can be horrid, yet still beautiful. Let’s dive!
Psalm 61:2-“From the end of the earth I call You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” NASB2020 You can use this scripture to call on Jesus when you are feeling overwhelmed because He is our rock! I learned along time ago to pray His word to get me through.
Matthew 11:28- “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” NASB2020 When you are feeling exhausted, meditate on this scripture. Rest does not mean being weak. We are allowed to REST. It becomes easier when we rest in God instead.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” NASB2020 This is the scripture you meditate on when you feel anxiety or worry trying to take over you.
Isaiah 40:29- “He gives strength to the weary, And to the one who lacks might He increases power.” NASB2020 This scripture you can definitely meditate on because this speaks to the Greatness of God. When strength is needed to keep going, God promises strength to those of us who are feeling weak.
Psalm 34:18- “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.” NASB2020 For those of us who get unusually sad or emotional, God is near. When we cannot explain our emotions, God is near. This is the scripture to meditate on.
Psalm 4:8- “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone , Lord, have me dwell in safety.” NASB2020 As I said earlier, its okay to get rest. This is when we trust God to give us a peaceful sleep as well as keep us safe as we sleep for restoration.
Believe that faith and postpartum emotional struggles are not opposites of one another. We need prayer, support from those who love us, the word of God, and medical care all together in order to really heal. Im talking physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Here is a prayer that you can help:
“Heavenly Father,
Thank you for bringing me through childbirth and blessing me with a precious life. As my body heals and my emotions adjust, give me peace in my mind, strength in my body, and rest for my soul. When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are my refuge. When I become anxious, help me trust You. When I feel exhausted, renew my strength. Help me embrace this season without feeling pressured to do everything. Give me patience with myself, wisdom in caring for my children, and the courage to ask for help when I need it. Lord, cover my home with Your peace. Let this postpartum season be one of healing, restoration, love, and grace. In Jesus name, Amen!
Blessings Queens!
